Alright friends. It’s official. I’ve been 35 for a whole entire day and my world has completely changed!
Ok, not really. Haha. But I am a year older and perhaps a bit wiser (???), and more than anything I’m grateful to God for another year!
This birthday is hitting me as a bit of a milestone, so I thought I’d share 10 life lessons I’ve learned along the way.
I know there’s still so much wisdom I’m lacking and so much knowledge to gain, but for me, this is 35.
1. Age ain’t nothing but a number.
You all heard Aaliyah say it (may she rest in peace). Err, maybe not in that exact context but for real. How old do you feel?!! That’s what matters most!!!
2. Life is precious.
This sounds less cliche and begins to sink in as you get a little older. You’re not only welcoming and celebrating new life, you’ve had to say goodbye to loved ones too.
3. I will always need my mommy.
She’s the best person on earth. I love and appreciate her more than words could ever express! I’ll continue looking up to her now and in the future.
I’ll need her when I’m 70 so she better plan on making it to 90. Seriously.
4. I don’t have to wait on someone else to buy me flowers.
Dear hubby, don’t take this as a hint that I don’t want another bouquet from you ever again, lol, but I don’t need to wait on anyone else to buy me something that brings me joy.
5. Believe you are who God says you are.
Get it through your head. Let it sink in. Filter out the lies. He created you, He adores you, and you are amazing!!
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.- Psalm 139:14 (NKJV)
6. Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes.
Speaking the truth can be hard, but speaking the truth in love and grace can be powerful. *note to self*
Don’t let fear stand in your way!
7. Do what you can to feel good in the skin you’re in.
Invest in yourself. Don’t compare. Spend more time building yourself up then tearing yourself down. You’re beautiful and you’re worth it. Not just when you feel like your body is exactly where you want it to be. You’re worth it every day.
8. Obedience is better than sacrifice.
Saying you’ll trust God is one thing. Acting in obedience is another. You’ll be stretched further than you thought you could go, and it will be more difficult than you could have imagined. However, it’s always, always worth it.
9. Be careful with your expectations.
This is not to say that you shouldn’t have any. Just be aware of your heart and your motives. Be careful not to put god-like expectations on man, and don’t put God in a box either. Learn to trust the process and appreciate the journey. Don’t miss it because it’s not what you expected!
10. Peace is priceless.
In your spirit, your mind, your marriage, your home, your workplace, and within your friendships, you can’t put a price on peace!
Do all that you can to initiate it, maintain it, and spread it. Peace can be yours, in spite of whatever it is you may be going through.
You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.- Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)
